MEMBERSHIP

Clause 7 of our Constitution deals with the composition and membership of the Association.

There are different categories of membership.

1. FOUNDER MEMBERS

Founder members are those public sector lawyers who adopted our Constitution on 3 June 2008 in Pietermaritzburg (clause 7(1) of our Constitution).

KAPSL on 3 June 2008 had 39 founder members.

These founder members were also regarded as the first ordinary members of the Association (clause 7(2) of our Constitution).

Founder members or ordinary members who have since left the public service due to retirement or resignation or taking up employment in the private sector, could also not continue their membership of the Association.

2. ORDINARY MEMBERS

All public sector lawyers, based in KwaZulu-Natal and employed in the various spheres and branches of government and the broader public sector, who subscribe to the aims and objects of the Association and our Code of Ethics, may apply for admission as ordinary members in terms of clause 9 of our Constitution. Ordinary members are liable for the payment of annual membership subscriptions (clause 10 of our Constitution).

Ordinary Members are reminded that the Annual Membership Subscription Fee for the 2011/ 2012 financial year is R250 per annum payable up front before or on 30 April 2011.
