MEMBERSHIP

 

 

Clause 7 of our Constitution deals with the composition and membership of the Association.

 

There are different categories of membership.

 

1. FOUNDER MEMBERS

Founder members are those public sector lawyers who adopted our Constitution on 3 June 2008 in Pietermaritzburg (clause 7(1) of our Constitution). They are also regarded as the first ordinary members of the Association (clause 7(2) of our Constitution).

2. ORDINARY MEMBERS

Other public sector lawyers who subscribe to the aims and objects of the Association and our Code of Ethics, may apply for admission as ordinary members in terms of clause 9 of our Constitution. Ordinary members are liable for the payment of annual membership subscriptions (clause 10 of our Constitution).

 

 

3. HONOURARY MEMBERS

Honourary membership may be conferred on invitation by the Plenary Council of the Association (clause 7(4)(b)(i) of our Constitution). Honourary members are exempt from the payment of the annual membership subscriptions

 

The Secretary of the Association must ensure a register of ordinary and honorary members is established and maintained: The register must indicate which ordinary members are founder members who adopted our Constitution in Pietermaritzburg on 3 June 2008 (clause 15(6)(b)(iv) of our Constitution).

 (a) clauses 2 (dealing with our aims and objects), 7(3), 7(4)(b) (dealing with our composition and membership) and 9(1) (dealing with applications for  membership) of our Constitution; and

(b) the Annexure to our Constitution dealing with our Code of Ethics to which all applicants (prospective members) must subscribe to unconditionally,

and contact the Secretary of the Association.
