MEMBERSHIP
Clause 7 of our Constitution deals with the composition and membership of the Association.
There are different categories of membership.
1. FOUNDER MEMBERS
Founder members are those public sector lawyers who adopted our Constitution on 3 June 2008 in Pietermaritzburg (clause 7(1) of our Constitution).
KAPSL on 3 June 2008 had 39 founder members.
These founder members were also regarded as the first ordinary members of the Association (clause 7(2) of our Constitution).
The founder members who did not pay the the annual membership subscription fees in terms of clause 10 of our Constitution, could not continue as ordinary members of the Association. Founder members or ordinary members who have since left the public service due to retirement or resignation or taking up employment in the private sector, could also not continue their membership of the Association.
2. ORDINARY MEMBERS
All public sector lawyers, based in KwaZulu-Natal and employed in the various spheres and branches of government and the broader public sector, who subscribe to the aims and objects of the Association and our Code of Ethics, may apply for admission as ordinary members in terms of clause 9 of our Constitution. Ordinary members are liable for the payment of annual membership subscriptions (clause 10 of our Constitution).
KAPSL currently (2010) has 21 fully paid up ordinary members:
